  • PHASE ONE

    0-2 WEEKS

    WEIGHT BEARING

    As tolerated with brace locked in extension.

    BRACE

    On at all times during day and while sleeping.

    Off for hygiene.

    RANGE OF MOTION

    0°-30°

    EXERCISES

    Heel slides, quad and hamstring sets, patellar mobs, gastroc stretch, SLR in brace, hip and core strengthening ex’s. Modalities as appropriate.

  • PHASE TWO

    2-6 WEEKS

    WEIGHT BEARING

    WBAT

    BRACE

    Discontinue at 6 weeks if able to obtain full extension w/o lag*.

    RANGE OF MOTION

    2-3 Weeks: 0°-60°

    3-4 Weeks: 0°-90°

    EXERCISES

    Begin floor-based core and glutes work, balance exercises, hamstring curls, heel raises.

  • PHASE THREE

    6-12 WEEKS

    WEIGHT BEARING

    Full

    BRACE

    None

    RANGE OF MOTION

    Maintain full extension and progress flexion

    EXERCISES

    Begin closed chain activities quads, progress balance, core/pelvic and stability work.

    Begin stationary bike and elliptical.

  • PHASE FOUR

    3-5 MONTHS

    WEIGHT BEARING

    Full

    BRACE

    None

    RANGE OF MOTION

    Full

    EXERCISES

    With physician approval, Initiate running at 12 wks and progress to sport-specific drills as tolerated.

    Return to play after 16 weeks post-op when cleared by MD.
