Subacromial Decompression/Distal Clavicle Excision
  • PHASE ONE

    0-4 WEEKS

    RANGE OF MOTION

    PROM as tolerated*.

    IMMOBILIZER

    0-2 weeks: Worn for comfort only.

    2-4 weeks: Discontinue.

    EXERCISES

    0-2 weeks: Elbow/wrist/hand ROM, pendulums, wall climbs.  Shoulder AAROM/AROM.

    2 weeks: Deltoid cuff isometrics

    Begin scapular protraction/retraction.

  • PHASE TWO

    4-8 WEEKS

    RANGE OF MOTION

    Increase as tolerated to full.

    IMMOBILIZER

    None

    EXERCISES

    Advance to therabands and dumbbells as tolerated, capsular stretching at end-ROM to maintain flexibility.

  • PHASE THREE

    8-12 WEEKS

    RANGE OF MOTION

    Progress to full without discomfort.

    IMMOBILIZER

    None

    EXERCISES

    Advance strength training as tolerated including PNF.  Begin eccentrically resisted motions.

    Advance to sport and full activity as tolerated after 12 weeks.

  • PHASE FOUR

    12+ WEEKS

    RANGE OF MOTION

    Full AROM in all planes.

    IMMOBILIZER

    None

    EXERCISES

    Begin weight-bearing activities in prone and quadruped positions.

    Advance overhead cuff strengthening.

    Begin sport-specific exercises after week 16 when cleared by MD.
