Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair
  • PHASE ONE

    0-6 WEEKS

    RANGE OF MOTION

    0-4 weeks: begin PROM

    Limit 140° flexion, 45° ER, 20° extension, 45° abduction, NO IR.

    IMMOBILIZER

    Immobilized at all times day and night w/ abductor pillow

    EXERCISES

    Elbow/wrist ROM, grip strengthening and pendulums.  Begin PROM.

    Codman’s, counter slides, and scapular stabilization.

  • PHASE TWO

    6-12 WEEKS

    RANGE OF MOTION

    Progress PROM to full.  Start active assist and progress to AROM.

    IMMOBILIZER

    None

    EXERCISES

    Continue Phase I work; begin active- assisted exercises, begin passive IR.  Continue scapular program.  Begin wall climbs/ladder and wand exercise home program.

  • PHASE THREE

    12-16 WEEKS

    RANGE OF MOTION

    Gradual return to full AROM

    IMMOBILIZER

    None

    EXERCISES

    Begin resistive strengthening in all planes.

    Advance scapular strengthening.

    Cycling/running as tolerated at 12 weeks.

  • PHASE FOUR

    4-6 MONTHS***

    RANGE OF MOTION

    Full and pain-free

    IMMOBILIZER

    None

    EXERCISES

    Continue with strengthening and stabilization exercises.

    Begin plyometric and throwing/racquet program, continue with endurance activities.

    Maintain ROM and flexibility.

    6 Months:  Return to sport activities after clearance from physician.
